PRESS RELEASE: Generational launches digital Logbook to help automotive retailers build EV confidence directly from vehicle listings
Generational’s new digital Logbook brings battery health, range, charging and running-cost information directly into used EV listings to help retailers turn interest into confidence.
14th September 2026, London, UK – Generational, the UK-based innovator in electric vehicle battery condition diagnostics, has today announced the launch of its new digital Logbook tool for automotive retailers, designed to help close the confidence gap between consumer interest in EVs and online purchase consideration.
Making its debut with Available Car, the largest used-car supermarket in the East Midlands, the new tool can be added directly to vehicle listing pages on automotive retailers’ websites. It’s designed to give prospective customers clear, vehicle-specific information on battery condition, real-world range, charging and running costs before they make an enquiry, reserve a vehicle or visit a retailer.
While used EV volumes continue to grow, many customers still approach electric vehicles with practical questions extending from range, battery longevity, charging access and cost, which remain among the most common concerns shaping the buying journey.
Cox Automotive’s 2026 UK EV Adoption and Perceptions Report highlights the scale of that education challenge. Based on a survey of more than 2,000 UK drivers, the report found that cost perception, battery myths and charging confidence remain among the most significant barriers to wider adoption – with clearer battery health, degradation and warranty information key levers for narrowing the confidence gap. It also found that 65% of UK drivers believe EV total cost of ownership is higher than internal-combustion vehicles, despite many EV owners citing lower maintenance costs.1
Generational’s Logbook is designed to help retailers address those questions earlier in the sales funnel. By embedding clear EV ownership information directly into the online listing experience, retailers can give customers the confidence to progress from browsing to serious consideration.
At the heart of the Logbook is Generational’s Battery Health Report. This includes the vehicle’s Battery Health Certificate, its battery State of Health percentage, original battery capacity and details of the remaining battery warranty.
Together, these data points give customers a transparent view of the vehicle’s most valuable component, helping retailers move insight beyond age, mileage and headline range.
The Logbook also incorporates an interactive EV Range Map, providing a visual reference for where a customer could travel on a full charge. The map uses the effective range of the vehicle and enables users to toggle by season, select one-way or return journeys on a single charge, and view charging points relative to a chosen start location.
For customers unfamiliar with EV ownership, this turns range from an abstract figure into a practical and personalised tool. Rather than relying only on quoted mileage, retailers can show how a specific vehicle could fit into a customer’s real-world journeys.
Alongside range and battery transparency, the Generational Logbook includes a Running Cost Calculator, helping customers compare the indicative cost of driving an EV against a petrol-powered car. Users can adjust inputs including annual mileage, the proportion of home versus public charging, home and public charging prices, fuel cost and MPG.
The tool then provides an indicative estimate of annual savings and cost per mile, giving customers a clearer view of where EV ownership can deliver financial benefit.
A further calculator estimates charging time per week, allowing customers to change inputs such as miles driven per year and the proportion of home and public charging. This helps demystify charging behaviour and supports more informed conversations about how EV ownership works in practice.
The new solution is launched as industry research continues to show that consumer education remains critical to the next phase of EV adoption. Many prospective buyers are interested in EVs, but still need greater detail on cost, battery condition, range and charging before they feel ready to commit.
Generational’s own 2025 Battery Performance Index, based on more than 8,000 battery health assessments conducted across the UK used EV market, found that average battery State of Health stands at 95.15%, with many older and higher-mileage vehicles performing strongly. However, the Index also found that variance between vehicles increases with age, reinforcing the need for transparent testing on a case-by-case basis.
Oliver Phillpott, CEO of Generational, said: “The used EV market is in need of more information for car-buyers. Customers are interested in electric vehicles, but they often need clearer answers around battery life, range, charging and cost before they feel ready to take the next step. For instance, something as simple as seeing how far you can actually get on 200 miles’ range, when viewed on a map, really helps break down confidence barriers.
“The Generational Logbook is designed to put those answers directly on the vehicle listing, where customers are spending time weighing up their options. By bringing together battery health, warranty detail, usable range, charging context and running costs in one digital tool, retailers can make EV ownership feel more tangible before a customer even walks into a showroom.”
Steve Wiseman, Operations Manager at Available Car, said: “Used EVs are still new territory for a lot of customers, so it’s understandable that people want a bit more information before they commit. For us, the value of Generational’s Logbook is that it gives customers useful, vehicle-specific information at the point they are already browsing. It should help them understand what a particular EV might cost to run, how far it will go and what condition the battery is in. That can only help people feel more comfortable and better informed when they are deciding which used EV is right for them.”
For automotive retailers, the Generational Logbook provides a practical digital tool that supports stronger EV merchandising, higher conversion and higher-quality customer enquiries.
By presenting complex EV ownership information in a simple and accessible format, the tool helps retailers demonstrate the suitability of individual vehicles, support buyer confidence and reduce friction in the sales process.
The launch builds on Generational’s broader mission to facilitate a thriving market for used EVs by making battery condition and ownership data more transparent. Its existing solutions already help retailers, leasing companies and remarketers assess used EV batteries quickly and consistently, enabling more accurate appraisals, stronger residual values and greater confidence when buying, valuing and selling electric vehicles.
Phillpott added: “Used-EV customers need the same level of confidence they have come to expect from service history, mileage verification and vehicle checks. The difference is that EVs require a new layer of information, from battery condition and usable range to charging behaviour and running costs.
“The retailers that can make that information clear online will be best placed to convert EV interest into sales. The Generational Logbook gives them the tool to do exactly that.”
Generational’s battery health checks and State of Health certification are designed to help retailers, leasing companies and remarketers assess used EV batteries quickly and consistently. The company’s tools enable retailers to certify battery health and real-world range, support stronger buyer confidence and reduce risk when acquiring, valuing and selling used plug-in vehicles.
