PRESS RELEASE: Generational partners with Maverick Diagnostics to bring EV battery health testing to thousands of UK workshops
Generational and UK-wide diagnostics tool supplier Maverick Diagnostics announce a new UK distribution partnership, making Generational’s EV battery health testing technology available to motorists nationwide.
14th July 2026, London, UK – Generational, the UK-based innovator in electric vehicle battery condition diagnostics, has today announced a new partnership with Maverick Diagnostics to make EV battery health testing available to thousands of automotive workshops across the UK.
Under the agreement, Generational will distribute its testing kits, fulfil workshop orders and provide the software platform that powers its battery health checks, State of Health reporting and customer-facing certificates. Maverick Diagnostics will market the technology and provide educational insights for workshops.
Maverick Diagnostics serves around 6,000 workshops across the UK, giving independent repairers a straightforward route to add EV battery testing to their customer offering. The partnership is designed to help motorists access clear, trusted information about the condition of an EV battery through the local workshops they already know and trust.
The used-EVs parc is growing at an increasingly fast rate, and battery condition is becoming one of the most important questions for consumers, retailers and repairers alike. While real-world data shows EV batteries are performing strongly overall, individual vehicles can vary depending on age, charging behaviour, usage profile and maintenance history.
That makes routine battery health testing increasingly important. With battery condition representing one of the most influential factors in determining used-EV value in today’s market, Generational and Maverick Diagnostics are encouraging EV owners to include a battery condition check as part of annual vehicle maintenance, whether during a service, MOT appointment, pre-purchase inspection or before selling a vehicle.
The partnership brings together two British innovators with a shared consumer-championing mission, making complex vehicle technology simple, understandable and accessible. For Generational, the agreement marks another step in its mission to build confidence in the used EV market by making battery transparency a standard part of vehicle ownership. For Maverick Diagnostics, it expands the tools available to workshops preparing for a more electrified vehicle parc.
Generational has previously secured funding from the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK, joining a small cohort of outstanding British automotive technology start-ups selected for their contribution to net-zero innovation. The new partnership with Maverick Diagnostics now helps turn that innovation into a practical service for workshops and motorists across the country.
Oliver Phillpott, CEO of Generational, said: “Battery health should not be something consumers only discover when they are buying a car, selling a car or when something goes wrong. It should become a familiar part of EV ownership, in the same way motorists understand the importance of service history, mileage verification or an MOT.
“Maverick Diagnostics is one of the most trusted names amongst UK workshops, and this partnership enables us to put Generational’s technology into the hands of the repairers motorists already rely on. Together, we can make battery testing accessible at scale, giving consumers clear, data-backed answers in minutes.
“We are proud to be building this with another British business that understands both vehicle technology and the needs of workshops. Our focus now is on making that innovation practical and accessible for the motorists and businesses driving the EV transition.”
Andy Brooke, CEO of Maverick Diagnostics, said: “Workshops are being asked to service increasingly sophisticated vehicles, and EV battery condition is one of the biggest questions their customers have. Garages need tools that are accurate, easy to use and commercially practical, and motorists need information they can understand and trust. By bringing Generational’s battery testing software into our distribution and support model, we are giving workshops a credible way to answer those questions.”
Generational’s testing process is designed to be fast and simple for workshop staff to use. A compact device connects to the vehicle’s OBD port, enabling the software to assess key battery condition data and produce a clear report that can be shared with the customer.
The report gives motorists a straightforward view of the vehicle’s battery State of Health, including clear breakdowns of the condition of each cell in the battery – helping them understand how the whole pack compares with its original capacity. The end result is giving drivers greater confidence in the vehicle’s condition and expected performance.
For workshops, the solution creates a new EV service opportunity as more electric vehicles enter their second and third ownership cycles – with local garages set to play an increasingly important role in helping consumers understand and maintain battery-powered vehicles.
Generational’s recent Battery Performance Index, based on more than 8,000 EV battery assessments across the UK, found that average battery State of Health stands at 95.15%, with many older and higher-mileage vehicles performing strongly. However, the Index also found that variance between vehicles increases with age – reinforcing the importance of testing on a case-by-case basis.
